this past friday me and melanie traversed the state of south carolina to go from clemson to charleston...and as we hit I 26, i sensed that familiar air of coming home. and it was comforting. something about those afternoons when im heading home, when the trees are silhoutted by the setting sun, and the mile markers get ever closer to the one city that will always have my heart...it just makes my soul dance a little.
and as we passed the familar landmarks...greenville water tower, gold's gym, columbia water tower, zeus, maurice's bbq, and supersod...the slightest smile played upon my lips as excitement brewed within me. there's just something about that trip home that gets me.
upon our arrival to the mortera household, my mother of course had a deliciously mouthwatering meal for me and melanie (pictures to follow). i love me mum. she's so utterly amazing in so many ways. we adopted melanie and she became an honorary asian. she later became an honorary vera cruz, the highest honor there is to be sure, when mom divulged that her younger sister had a blankie that she kept with her all the time too.
and of course, as is the tradition in our house, we went to blockbuster after dinner. we ended up watching duplicity...and im still baffled as to what in the heck happened in that movie. one thing i know for sure is that it should've been called quadriplicity or something more alluringly infinite sounding...
after helping melanie start her own blog, which you should check out, we headed to bed...and talked till the late AM hours of course, and awoke to my arrested development alarm...to which melanie responded with "what the heck is that?"...
then after a delightful breakfast of fruits, bacon, eggs, and croisants, we headed downtown to peruse the farmer's market...and i fell in love with charleston all over again. so vibrant, so historic, so full of life and exhuberant personality...
at the farmer's market, i got asked by paul silva, who noticed i was taking pictures (well i didnt take all the ones i wanted because i was worried id look like a major creeper), if i wanted an opportunity to make money with photography. he has a studio in mount pleasant and does a lot of cool things with his photos. if i find the opportunity i def plan on building a portfolio to show him for when i return to charleston. it would be nice to make that a money making hobby...and to earn commision for other things people buy...hm, will have to pray about that. i dunno if i'll have time for it though...
speaking of which...im kinda sad i didnt really take any spectacular pics in charleston this weekend, aw well
and there is a guy, norm lambert, who took pictures of cast iron things around charleston, and other objects, that can be seen as letters...i got my name...and he gave me an L for free, which i gave to lana this very evening...such an innovative idea...id love to just get lost in a city and take pictures of everything...
the farmer's market is def something to check out if ur in charleston on saturday mornings/early afternoon. and there's live music and a bunch of cool unique gifts, foods, art, and pets!
and then of course we went to urban outfitters and american apparel...love those stores. and we saw some excitement occur...3 fire engines showed up (haha on king and burns street)...with some hot firemen might i add. i didnt really get any pics of them...mel did! mmm o baby o baby.
and so, after sailing though terrential rains, we made it back to tigertown...now some pictures for thee...

Upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown,
Tapping at the window and crying through the lock,
Are all the children in their beds, it's past eight o'clock?"--childrens nursery rhyme
